Ehhhhh, that might depend on which area you're focusing on. A Driving While Intoxicated charge can end up requiring a public defender where I work. Usually, it's the family and property court related matters that are separate from our criminal focused office. Ending up in jail can depend on how severe and how frequent the charges are.
