This fact is genuinely fun. I grew up in a family that had milk as a standard drink with every meal, regardless of age (unless it was a holiday meal, in which case wine). I didn't notice until I was a teenager eating at friends' houses that this was totally abnormal for my region. I began to wonder where it came from. Well, I can keep guessing-- my family is French and German, so who knows! But it's really cool that there's a country in the world where that's perfectly normal.
@Sisu And the 83% who are not lactose-intolerant make up for the rest. Especially children. Also... does that really measure drinking milk or consuming milk? At least some of the lactose is done away with when it's heated. In Pulla-dough the yeast eats the lactose before baking... (along with sugar and flour).
@Sisu Actually it is "lactose-free drink" since according to law you are not allowed to call it milk if the product it changed too much In this case the lactose has been burnt which makes it non-milk
So it's not counted here ;)
They just ingnore the fact that the most of them maybe can't drink milk. "naw man. I just found out that I am lactose intolerant.... Nah, whatever. I love milk."
@AussiePengwin Actually it is really low. The lowest is in Europe with an average 15%.
Milk is a key food more in Europe than elsewhere in the world so it benefited from a positive natural selection.
the "high" lactose intolerance-rate probably has to do with how much milk products there are in Finland. Lactose intolerance gets more easily diagnosed because of the all lactose products people eat.
In practice most countries actually have a lot more people who are unable to eat milk products.
@siprus yup, that's what I wanted to comment: lactose intolerance is not very harmful or agressive usually, and you only notice you have it when you' ve drank more milk than you could handle a few times after each other.
@amypisces As a bartender I can tell that usual weekend 1/2 of the cocktail orders are milk based -_-'
And there is many, not just white Russian Among WR most popular one is "Marianne" (2cl mint liqueur, 2cl cacao liqueur and rest of the glass milk, tastes like Marianne named mint chocolate candy).

"Fuck you, I do what I want! *slams thirtieth cup of milk*"
