Imagine if the movie Apocalypse Now had been made by Brits:
"You smell that? Do you smell that? Tea, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of Earl Grey in the morning."
In fact, the kettle isn't just for making tea (though that is a very useful feature). It's also used for preparing hot meal rations, which come in boil-in-the-bag format. That's got to be a step up from your average MRE.
Of course the tanks can make tea (frankly, if they couldn't, the crew would find a way to use the heat from the engine). Here come the real questions: What does the infantry do come tea time? And can British combat aircraft make tea as well? (Possibly in flight?)
@VeryCreativeName Some of the tanks had the BV's attached to the back in the same compartment as the telephone (for infantry to talk to the tank crew).
Combat aircraft.. multi seat yes, but only after planes became pressurized. It's somewhat difficult to get a brew going at altitude (since the boiling temperatures lower at lower atmosphere) and even if you did it would taste horrible due to not being hot enough.
@sgt_Oddball I guess Infantry would have to make tea the old-fashioned way without tank support. I kind of expected them to get issued a special piece of tea-making equipment for those long hours waiting in foxholes.
As for aircraft, I guess those conditions make sense. After all, a single-seat aircraft will usually not stay up long enough that you really need a tea break. And while you could use pressurized vessels to make your tea in unpressurized aircraft, the tea suddenly boiling over when it gets depressurized for drinking would make the whole affair somewhat dangerous - though I would expect this to be danger any proper Englishman would gladly face for queen (well, king, back in the day), country and tea.
@Jennifer_Pevensie Sadly, something like that happened at Gallipoli in 1915:
-Now what do we do?
-I don't know. Do you?
-No. Should we capture those hills so the Turks won't pin us on this beach?
-Nah, let's make some tea instead.
