David (my manager) asked people to ask me questions and he then picked which ones to send me. Here goes..
Q: what is you biggest motivation for making SaTW and the other comics?
A: I like to make people happy, because it makes me happy. When people tell my that my comics have cheered them up after a bad day, my day gets better as well.
Q: How much research goes into a historical or 'current events' themed SatW?
A: Not a whole lot usually, which I think shines through. I usually just goes with the first idea I get and quickly looks up if I'm completely off. If my idea has even a grain of truth to it, I usually run with it. It's more important to me to be funny than correct, though sometimes a joke only works if it's completely true.
Q: What does the average day for you consist of?
A: Week days are very similar. I get up at 3 am in the morning to go to work, grocery shops on my way home just as the stores open, takes a nap on the sofa, and then spend the rest of the day drawing/watching movies/go for long walks/whatever. I usually only see my friends on weekends and otherwise keep in contact with them through online chatting or text messages. It's a routine I'm very happy with right now.
Q: Who are your favorite characters to draw?
A: That varies a lot. I always like to draw Denmark and Norway's hair though.
Q: Where do you see Humon Comics in 5 years time?
A: I don't know. I've come to accept that I can't predict the future and that my own wants and needs change over time. I actually rather like where it is right now, easy and fun. With David's help I can get far, but there's a limit to what I'll do because I don't have a dream of becoming a professional cartoonist "no matter what". I'll be just as happy with a normal job that allows me to draw in my free time.
Q: Do your friends in real life know your secret identity?
A: Yes. I've told some of them, and others recognized my style. I prefer when new people I meet don't know though, because I don't trust their motives for wanting to befriends me if they know who I am. I've already "burned my fingers" a few times.
Q: If there was a movie based off your Scandinavia and the World comics, what would be the plot of the movie?
A: Hm, if it was to be made today it would probably have things like Global Warming and Pollution as characters the countries had to fight.
Q: When you started drawing these silly little comics, did you ever imagine they would become as popular as they are?
A: Not at all. It all started with Love and Tentacles and all of a sudden I started getting a lot of watchers, and when I made SaTW it just exploded! I've always just been having fun with it, but apparently people liked it.
Q: You play around a lot with gender roles and sexuality in your comics. Is there an agenda there or is it just for fun?
A: A bit of both. It's mainly just because I think the many different ways to have a family or be in a relationship are interesting, but I also want to teach young people that they don't have to live a certain way, or look down at other people who didn't make the same choices as them. The world is a very diverse place, and the only thing that matters is that everyone involved are happy with the way they live. I wish more people would be happy to see other people happy, and it really warms my heart when someone tells me my comics have made them more understanding of others.
That's all for now.
