To Europeans it seems weird and oddly suspicious at first that some American products boast that they contain real sugar, until we remember that Americans usually use corn syrup.
@Duus In America there were real, serious debates because some cities banned stores from selling extra large sodas in an attempt to cut back on obesity. Now they didn't ban soda itself, nor did they make it illegal to buy a bunch of small sodas, just for stores to sell them in extra large containers. People still flipped out because Americans hate being told what not to eat.
I think you mean "high-fructose corn syrup"
Lately, I've noticed a lot of ingredient lists that have corn syrup AND high-fructose corn syrup....
Yay, America....
"What about saccharine? It is cheap and I also can use 700 times less of it. But that would still make it taste weird, so no, I'm going to use dextrose..."

If it makes you guys feel any better, I'm American and I find honey ham to be gross. I'd much rather eat a salt-cured ham. A lot of our mayonnaise seems to be sweetened "spreads" like Miracle Whip (which is also gross). There are a lot of people here who consider Hellmann's (aka "Best Foods") to be the only "real" mayonnaise. It doesn't have any sweeteners in it. Our bread, though, yeah we don't have any excuse for that.
Our chocolate is repulsive. I'm so sorry about that.
@Vulturedoors I feel your pain.... At least I live in Louisiana.... We have so much culture down here that it's easy to find foods from many different countries, for example, there's this really great Vietnamese restaurant I know of.
@Vulturedoors You're not alone! I still have no idea why we have to put sugar or fake sugar in everything. Miracle Whip is the DEVIL and I thought I hated things like tuna salad because I didn't like mayo. Turns out I do like mayo, but not Miracle Whip, whatever it is. On the other hand, eating slices of tomato slathered in Hellmann's and seasoned salt probably isn't any better for me than honeyed ham >.>
@Vulturedoors miracle whip is not mayonnaise..... and yes it's gross. Actually most restaurants won't use miracle whip because it tastes curiously like mayo that's gone off......

That's really disturbing, in my country politicians try to regulate prices though specific taxation in order to make healthy food cheaper then unhealthy food.
And high fructose corn syrup is pure poison to the body, by all rights of sanity it should be illegal to put into any food item, and by promoting it it seems like the American Oligarchy literally wants the masses to grow fat and sick.
i had two different reactions to this: LMAO, i know right? XDD
and
mmmph, i know right? =_=;;;
i just wanna grab a fruit and suck it up like a vampire. once you go a week or so without sugar, the next time you taste it, you realize its actually really, really, really gross xpp
@kier
I once went half a year without ever eating fast food. Intentional at first, and then just as a result of habit (I was trying to save money, mainly). When I realized how long it had been, I decided to treat myself to a BIG MacDonalds meal for a change.
20 minutes after getting home, I threw it ALL up. Violently. Like a fire-hose. It was awful. As was cleaning it all up, while still dry-heaving.
I've since restored my tolerances... (and given myself IBS as a result, I think) but it goes to show how your system can become intolerant of certain types of food after a while.
