I'm suffering from a sever case of influenza right now, so instead of thinking of anything even remotely original I thought I'd illustrate this adorable little meme going around right now.
It would be a lot simpler if these southern slavs would just, Idk, join up in a union of some sorts, so they could share the sea without changing borders and become a bigger force in the region. They are all fairly similar anyway.
@Ayrshireladdie And they lived happily ever after and nothing bad ever happened in the country. No wars of secession whatsoever and they didn't even need to spark a global war to get started. Nope, it's just a plain good idea.
@Svenskefan They tried it. It didn't work out. They had a huuuge fight when they broke up. They still have some troubles even today, but at least they tried. Just like Czechs and Slovaks. Slavs are wonderful sometimes *grabs pálinka*
The Neum corridor dates back to the treaty of Karlovci, where a buffer zone, was created between the Republic of Ragusa and Venetian Dalmatia. The buffer zone was given to the Ottomans who already ruled the area what is now known as Bosnia-Hercegovina.
Later on in history, the Austrians came, the former Rupublic of Ragusa and Venetian Dalmatia was united by the Austrian as a province under Austria called Dalmatia. Naum which had been controlled by Ottomans, became part of the Austrian Condominium (modernday Bosnia-Hercegovina) which was jointly ruled by both Austria and Hungary.
Blah blah WWI blah blah Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes blah blah Kingdom of Yugoslavia Blah blah WWII blah blah Communist Yugoslavia blah blah War in Balkans, blah blah independence, blah blah more war in balkan blah blah today.
