America just wants his friends to be well fed and happy.
I'll never forget the first time I went to an American restaurant. I had never seen so much food on one plate in my life, and it haunts me to this day.
I've visited America several times, and I feel like, from experience, that the excessive amounts of food are just a kind of gesture of being nice and making sure people are fully taken care of
@ABCEastPonymon
You mean like......... England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland physically merge to form the UK? Ngl that'd be pretty epic. He'd have England's poshness, Scotland's epicness and bagpipe playing skills, a fondness for sheep (Giggles in Welsh), and, uh, whatever Northern Ireland has (sorry northern Ireland, but all I think of is the IRA attacks when I hear your name)
@ABCEastPonymon.
....... And then he immediately splits back apart because Scotland is screaming about independence, Northern Ireland can't decide whether he wants to unite with his twin or not, England wants the sun to go supernova and kill everybody and Wales just wants all of them to get along.
@Yeehaw0 Nothing except for the fact that this conversation is split into two parts, so some people might be confused why we're talking about UK when he isn't in the comic
@ABCEastPonymon. Its an absolute NIGHTMARE trying to find any fanmade content at all. If you actually care about the content quality? Impossible. I once saw a fanfic that had like 50 words. That's like THREE SENTENCES.
At home in the States, my husband and I often -- usually -- get one single meal to share between us, and we're satisfied, so, yes, America does serve huge meals.
But we have been travelling in Spain the last two months. Here in Spain we two get one meal to share between us AND WE HAVE LEFTOVERS.
You guys have heard of "Spain", right? Spanien? Spania? Spánn? Espanja? Go visit. Eat. Then tell me about American-size meals.
@korben600 I mean tbh consumers should never complain that they can get 49 oz. out of a $1.30, that is simply beautiful in my eyes. but hey i guess bog food portions can be intimidating for some that don't think, "Hey i can save this and heat it up later."
@Shannen Well I wouldn't say that, the leftovers is like a second meal for sure but if you are able to ration out something that was made to simply stuff you in one meal into days worth then t just might be everyone has no appetite/hunger. plus restaurant food typically is kinda pricey, unless talking fast food in which case you could feed you whole family at jack in the box with only 10 bucks if they are low maintenance.
@SirKibbz Still sounds pretty handy for the stereotypical filipino nurse who's working all the time and is so small the amount of food that would make her feel bloated would be miserly meager to foreign children
Well, to begin with, the maximum capacity of an adult human bladder ranges from 16-24 oz (depending on the size of the person). How many times do you want to go to the bathroom and piss from just one single beverage?
@Hinoron Well I mean yeah you are gonna go to the bathroom more, and the cup is the size of a person's head. but again you shouldn't complain about quantity for cheap. when you go out to eat at a restaurant do you hold off from getting a refill after a second glass because of bladder capacity? just seems restrictive to complain about a good deal.
@SirKibbz
No one is complaining about the ECONOMY of what's being offered, you're right about that. However, more of us than not would only want one drink with a meal, and almost none of us would want a third glass. Nor do we WANT to eat a meal more than double the physical size of our stomachs.
So either we are feeling obligated to stuff food into ourselves until we are very uncomfortable, or else all that extra, unnecessary food is being wasted.
Wasting food is a rather offensive idea to anyone who's ever gone hungry for lack of it.
@Hinoron you are supposed to jut take the rest home in a to go bag and heat it up later whenever you are hungry. no one is forcing yah to gorge yourself or throw away half a meal 0_o
@SirKibbz
Who really WANTS to do that though?
We come to a restaurant with the intent of order one meal per person, not several. It's like the restaurant is assigning us chores.
Listen, the entire premise of this day's comic was that Americans do not understand most other people's desire to eat smaller portions. We could keep going back and forth like this, but I think we're just validating the comic's point.
;)
@Hinoron It's just a weird thing in my eyes to complain about getting more bang for your buck, it's not so much a chore but more a decision for people to make if their stomach is not american made and can't handle a pound of burger, a side of fries to feed the Irish for a week, and enough soda to drown a 4 year old.
and I know it's exactly the point of this comic and yeah we are kinda proving it. But I would think if anything big portions would be something of a good thing apposed to spending $10-14 at a resturaunt and not getting enough food.
