@Noodlemerican
RIGHT, just demonstrate to the whole of SATW the 'Florida Man' thing! Like they don't think we're freakin' weird enough already. You just gave them AMPLE ammo.
@Redysko its kinda become a thing. The weirdest news in the last year has been from florida... we in the Northeast think its because of the heat. Those floridians are really weird to us in general... course they come up north this time of year and really screw everything up here on the cape.
@Redysko It is Florida because in Florida they have laws that all papers are available to the press. So things might happen in other states, but in Florida the press can write about it. They also don't get names so they just use "Florida Man" or "Florida Woman" ^^ Watch "The Surprising Truth About FLORIDA MAN!" by Vlogbrothers for more infomationen ^^
@TheSwedishMoose Icelanders are Scandinavian due to the majority of Icelanders being ethnic Norwegians and also for the fact that Icelandic is a Scandinavian language and because Iceland's history and culture is Scandinavian as well. Finland is technically not Scandinavian, but it can be considered Scandinavian to a larger extent due to being located on the peninsula and because of its historical association with Sweden.
@TheSwedishMoose Yes they are. The majority of Icelanders are ethnic Norwegians, the language, history and culture is Scandinavian as well. That's all it needs to be Scandinavian.
@ValurJarl No? ''The majority of Icelanders are ethnic Norwegians'' Only icelanders who have lived there since the viking age would have Norwegian blood, Modern Swedes and Danes share more blood with Norwegians than Icelandic people do. You're not Scandinavian and will never be, calling Iceland scandinavian is like calling Swedens old colony Saint-Barthélemy Scandinavian just because all streets and neighbourhoods have Swedish names.
@TheSwedishMoose You forget that Icelanders are a homogeneous nation and have not been touched much by outside influences other than Norwegians and Danes. And it's not only genetics that make us Scandinavian, it's also our history, language and culture. And are you seriously comparing Iceland to a small colony in the Caribbean? Iceland has never even been a colony so that is a poor comparison. I think you're just being ignorant.
@ValurJarl Jesus christ could you get this through your thick skull? Having scandinavian culture DOESN'T mean you're scandinavian, Åland has Swedish culture and they only speak Swedish there, is Åland considered scandinavian? No.
@TheSwedishMoose First of all, yes. Scandinavian culture and language does mark you as Scandinavian. Second of all, Åland is considered Scandinavian. I've never met anyone who says it isn't.
@TheSwedishMoose Åland is actually an autonomous island with its own government but within the Finnish realm. But culturally and linguistically it is Scandinavian, therefore it is Scandinavian.
@ShylokVakarian The Nordics is just a political cooperation between northern European countries with close historical association. Scandinavians are an ethnic group consisting of Norwegians, Icelanders, Swedes, Faroese, Danes and Ålanders.
@ValurJarl I'm not going to argue with you on this. So suck on this for a little while:
The term Scandinavia always includes the mainlands of the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden...In Nordic languages, only mainland Denmark, Norway and Sweden, are commonly included in the definition.
@ShylokVakarian Actually you can get better than Wikipedia. Also, that article you just sent also states "however, the Danish Faroe Islands are sometimes included, as sometimes are Iceland and Finland, because of their historical association with the Scandinavian countries and the Scandinavian peoples and languages." You might also want to take a look at this. http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Scandinavia
Also, "Nordic languages" is not a language branch, it's a collective term of languages within the Nordics. Which are Scandinavian languages and Uralic languages.
And no, Scandinavia didn't always include just the three kingdoms. "Scandinavia" comes from the Germanic word Skaðinawja, which means "damaged island" and referred only to Skåne. You also have to understand that when the term rose to popularity in the 19. century, Iceland was a part of Denmark, meaning that Icelanders were legally people of Denmark as well, and therefore Scandinavians too. If you knew anything about Icelandic culture, history and language, you would know that Icelanders are also Scandinavians.
@ThatDanishDrunk Nordic is just a collective term for political association between northern European countries. But Icelanders are ethnic Scandinavians and have a Scandinavian language, culture and history. Pretty much everything required to be Scandinavian.
@ThatDanishDrunk First of all, your immaturity gets you nowhere ("You're wrong, everyone knows that so just admit it and give up, you mook"? "I don't care about your persistent stupidity anymore."? I don't think I've ever seen anyone so immature and pathetic. lol). Second of all, it's already official that "Scandinavia" has a broader term than just the three monarchies. Just because you don't want it to be so, doesn't make it so. Also, next time you should at least try to make a better example.
"Why are you being so stubborn and persistent and also stupid?" One can easily ask you the same question, judging by your behaviour.
@ValurJarl Lol, you're actually right. Seems like I just stooped to the level that I hate when other people do the same. I was trying to prove a point and now I gave a point to the "enemy" by doing what I did. I'm sorry that I let my anger get to me, I guess I had just been a bit stressed lately.
Whenever an "American" does something, all 50 states and DC all look at each other the exact same way. Of course it's usually Florida who's responsible. If it weren't for Disney World I swear we'd just set that whole state adrift.
@Callback I accidentally pressed the report comment button when I was trying to reply (I'm sorry I made an assumption about what that button did, there should be a confirmation screen or something). Now for the comment I was going to put, I would like to know why us Floridians are always getting picked on. I mean I know California picks on us because they're jealous that our oranges are better than theirs but I don't get why everyone else picks on us.
@minimilk "TISS can be surprising, use a condom"? Okay, that just makes it even weirder and more hilarious. I gather it stands for STDs or something similar in Norwegian, but in Danish, tis means pee...
@Norsica I think Tiss means the same as the danish tis.... But im not a norwegian language expert.... Chlamydia feels like peeing broken glass, so the text does make sense.
Of course Norway did it, it was the perfect crime! He knew Denmark would take the fall since Sweden would immediately assume it was him, and because of the alcohol Denmark wouldn't adequately be able to defend himself. And even if Denmark found out it was Norway, he would then flip from trying to defend himself to trying to convince everyone else it was him since he has such a boner for Norway.
