As per tradition, here's the yearly Eurovision comic.
This Eurovision had a lot of firsts: Australia became an official participant despite preforming last year, the show was shown on American TV, an American preformed, and not a single Nordic country made it to the finals except Sweden because they were hosting the show.
I actually hope America joins Eurovision some day because they'd be the most amazing drama queens every time they lost, and nothing says Eurovision like drama.
Drama queens? I doubt it. Americans losing Eurovision would be like Americans losing the World Cup:
News Reporter: "How do you feel about the USA losing Eurvision?"
American: "Losing what?"
News Reporter: "It's like the World Cup of singing."
American: "Yeah, I don't really like soccer."
News Reporter: "No it's not soccer, it's singing."
American: "Like American Idol? I haven't watched that in years."
While I enjoyed that USA and Asia could follow Eurovision this year, I don't think it would be a good idea to let USA particpate.. The competition would be way to difficult for the smaller countries in Europe, whom the americans might not know.. The danish commentator said something about Asia having their own song contest, I like that idea. And USA could have their own too! Then we could meet up with the other winners from the other song contest and have a world grand prix!
@flashninja The USA participated in something similar (World Idol) but decided that it ain't worth staging another one after losing to who the judge from Australian Idol calls a Middle-Earth Idol.
They wanted it as a launcpad for the very first American Idol but got upset by undeniably one of the better voices you'll hear.
@MerryMay I think Eurovision should be European-only. Letting America join in would make it less unique to European cultures, it wouldn't be fair and it would take forever for Americans to pick their representative.
@ValurJarl "Letting America join in would make it less unique to European cultures"
Too late for that. Eurovision has been all about "diversity" (non-European cultures) for a few years now. Was there anything explicitly European (that didn't already become global) this year on Eurovision at all other than Azerbaijinjan having a token white guy?
@Lovenian69 Just because Eurovision has forgotten its meaning doesn't mean it should make it worse. The concept of Eurovision was to have a friendly game annually after being ravaged by wars for centuries.
@ValurJarl I can't say that Eurovision is strictly European, if Israel, Australia and most of north Africa is eligible for participation. Still, I don't think that including the US would be a good idea. '
@MerryMay
Sadly, the U.S. DOES have its own competitions... plural. We've just turned them into game shows and milked every last dollar we can out of them. They're mostly based on amateur performers trying to make a name for themselves, for whatever reason.
Not that I feel it's appropriate to compare Eurovision with American Idol, since they're drastically different in spirit and execution, but many Americans probably wouldn't grasp that.
@Arget I would say American Idol is kind of our equivalent to Eurovision, except it's much more about turning yourself into a serious pop star. There's very little room for humor & just taking the piss like there is in Eurovision. Plus, you aren't really competing for your state/city or anything really cool & competitive.
@MerryMay i think that wil work also i think that we need to do it for every continent so australia can particepate in their own contest so they wont have to travel around the world this can be like the olympics but than with music
@Valdurs I think all countries should send the music they actually like and listen to, rather than worry about what might win. The whole point is to share culture across borders.
@cimeryd I agree, but I wish we could send something actually good for once. This year there were many good participants to go to the Eurovision, but we (in my opinion) chose one of the worst out of them all. I just wish that Saara Aalto would have got to go. She is such an amazing singer
@Valdurs I agree with you, because when we have hundreds of Metal- bands, then why not send one of them at the Eurovision. We have mostly depressed people here, so we would like to share our depressed culture with you all.
@Valdurs Comedy music could also work. It's a shame that Eläkeläiset didn't make it to the competition. I hope that Aarne Tenkanen will compete in near future and Eläkeläiset would try again to get in the Eurovision.
@Valdurs Or at least Rock. I was very disappointed that Barbe-Q-Babes didn't win. But yes. If there's one music genre we are good at it's metal. We mostly suck at everything else.
@wHITEcHOKO Altough Denmark gave us 7 points the danish jury gave every country wrong points lol. Like they gave Ukraine 12 points when they should've had 0 lol.
@SwissCross Agree! It would be way to difficult to beat a giant nation like USA. They could just send Beyoncé or someone like that, since it's ok to send already famous people.
@MerryMay But they probably won't be able to get a world famous (or currently popular) singer at least. The UK is a few fairly popular singers, but we always loose. And the best singers we can get are either retired, or completely unknown to the entire country, let alone Europe
@SwissCross I agree. Letting the US join in would ruin the meaning of Eurovision and the fact that it should be uniquely European. Besides, it would take forever for Americans to pick their representative.
@ValurJarl Israel is close enough, and Austrailia doesn't really belong to a continent, considering it pretty much IS a continent. One country does not a Eurovision-clone make.
To be fair, though, Austrailia isn't European either, but I'm fine with them joining Eurovision, because Austrailia isn't exactly a part of a continent, and there's a lot of similarities between England and Austrailia. We barely even share a language with them.
Oh, hell to the no. America better leave our silly stuff alone. They are involved in pretty much everything, can't we have this one thing to ourselves?
Of course Sweden made it to the final, we're awesome ;)
@VoidTorcher How could we suck if we made it to top 5, and don't go all jury-votes on us. We were 9th within the jury, but 6th among the televote, so we must have done something good once more.
@VoidTorcher
Don't really matter Sweden always make it to the final, the one time (2010) we failed e changed the way he select our song was changed to avoid that happening and it worked well so far (result since then 3,1,14,3,1,5).
