Åand was introduced in http://satwcomic.com/difficult-love as Finland's cousin and Sweden's boyfriend; though Sweden hasn't always been the most loyal to him, to such an extent as Åland previously calling Sweden a crappy boyfriend sometimes due to this. Åland is described as one of the badasses in SATW, even if his outer nerdy appearance doesn't always match, he is extremely territorial and will fight you if you get in his way of his happiness and won't care if you surrender, he also scares Russia because of this http://satwcomic.com/don-t-mess-with-aland. Though Åland is gay he has never been criticized by the other characters for being so, though his boyfriend was by America http://satwcomic.com/god-hates-sweden, though that was from confusion. When Sweden gives Åland a USB drive, America jumps out and calls them geeks (because they're not flamingos..) http://satwcomic.com/i-love-youThough the characters never criticise Åland for being gay. Åland was the only character to be genderbent http://satwcomic.com/no-more-fun so his/her relationship so Sweden could be heterosexual, both Aland and Sweden were not thrilled about the idea, though it was just a joke and he was turned back to normal, in his next comics. Åland also carries Sweden piggy-back style in wife carrying competitions.
Åland has short gray hair and square glasses. He wears an Åland flag for a shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
