I don’t know how widespread this is anymore, but back in the day it wasn’t uncommon to see chihuahuas on the flat roofs in Mexico. Nothing escaped their watchful ears and eyes.
Generally people who use big guard dogs say they’re most effective when paired with a chihuahua who will alert the big dogs if it sees anything.

Hi Sorry about the late response but only just noticed your message. [Since the board has been so quiet I've not been looking much.
Can you tell me what your referring to please? Not don't anything I would think of as flirting, although possibly I may have said something jokingly that could be misread that way? Or is it another issue such as you think their some sort of bot spreading viruses or doing some con?
I think small dogs do better in the heat. Cube-square law being in effect and all, having a lot more surface area so they can remove bodyheat faster than a larger animal. That's why animals of the same species tend to get smaller the closer to the tropics they are.
Not quite how it works. Humans are among very few species which can actually cool down by sweating. Dogs have to pant to achieve the same effect.
However, animals can lose heat through the skin if coat isn't thick enough, which would be a problem in cooler regions, but not really an advantage in hotter ones.
@CorruptUser Your theory might also be reversed: in the north you would benefit from less surface area per volume to preserve heat in the winter. Although there are plenty of small animals also in the north.
One thing to note: it's extremely difficult to lose heat if the ambient temperature is higher than the body temperature, regarless of if you are big or small. Though a bigger body takes much longer to overheat than a small one. Just by the virtue of living, you produce heat internally all the time as well.
I don't claim any expertise beyond "have shared a house with chihuahuas and with big dogs" but the claim sounds believable. Chihuahuas have a lot of energy and a lot of noise so they'll investigate ANY noise and sound the alarm.
They normally sound the alarm even when they know they don't need to. But it wouldn't surprise me to learn that a big dog can tell the difference, since they can share subtleties of communication humans don't pick up. "Oh that's the 'roomie coming home late' bark, ignore" vs. "That's the 'new person' bark, better check it out."
Amazingly, Finland has 60% of the public want to join NATO. The previous record was 30%. Most Finns understood the need for realpolitik when it came to cooperating with the West while not attracting the ire of the East. But if Putin is going to just invade without a decent causus belli...
I'm a weird form of American "Nationalist"; I believe in "moar migrantz!!!" and "moar allyze!!!" which is very, very different from what Europeans generally think of when they hear the word "Nationalist". So of course I want Sweden and Finland to join NATO. However, joining is very much a decision that should not be made lightly, and a single recent event generally should not be the reason to make sure a serious decision. Please, think long and hard before deciding. I hope you do decide to join, but make sure you know it's the right choice.
@DarkMage7280 Well, for countries outside of Europe, NATO is the tool the US uses to rule the world. This is not good for our country and our friend Russia. (You know, China and Russia have always had good relations despite our government's preservation of neutrality)
@DarkMage7280 When I read the news about Finland, my first reaction was “Well, hell froze over”. My second was “And now NATO has the appropriate winter troops for that.”
@poodle_doodle I have headcanon that those four chihuahuas are Ottawa litter mates and he was born in Mexico, lives in the US and named after the Canadian capitol no wonder he's always confused
