I assumed a pool was only for the very wealthy and got confused at all the pictures of swimming pools from America, so my friend who practically grew up in the US and still visits the states every year joked that getting a pool is very high on Americans' list of things they need in their life.
"They make sure they have a house, a bed, food, and then a pool"
Actually poor people are more likely to be obese because healthy food is more expensive. Anything bad for you is cheaper. You have to pay 5 bucks for organic lettuce but only a dollar for a cheeseburger
@Jorgi
True of first world countries. Less true in 2nd or 3rd world countries, where being poor means you're desperate to find ANY food, not just healthier food.
Also, people who purposefully buy healthy food are more likely to keep a regular exercise routine as well.
It REALLY depends on where you live. In the South where it is hot a lot, there are lots and lots of pools in the backyards of regular middle class houses. In the North, it isn't common at all.
One of the most common perceptions of America for me are suburbias where the only difference between the houses is the shape of the pools in their gardens lmao
