A little watercolour picture I made after reading about Sweden’s and Finland’s history. Again.
Finland used to be happy. They used to be the best of friends, but then shit happened and now especially Finland denies having ever liked Sweden.
I always try to make my watercolour paintings look as messy as possible, because no other paint does the messy look as well as watercolours.
Also, watercolours make pictures look more personal and emotional.
And I promise that I'll upload an actual comic soon. Promise!
@AlephFIN I really doubt deep down inside that any of the two nations hate eachother, more likely the other way around. There are countless finnish people living in sweden (not only fenno-swedes) and I can guarantee you there is plenty of swedes living in finland, aswell. During the second world war my grandmother (along with countless other finnish children) was shipped to sweden to escape the war. My grandmother may have passed away, but she ensured that there is a little bit of finnish inside of me.
Do a walkabout in sweden and ask people if they have any relations to finland and you'd be surprised over the amount of people who has a finnish parent/grandparent.
@FinKoponen
Sweden was "neutral" in second World War, but must remember that Sweden helped Finland quite a much for example in Winter War and Finland is grateful for that to Sweden;
“It is known that at least 8,000 Swedes voluntarily went to Finland to fight alongside the Finns. The Swedish government and public also sent food, clothing, medicine, weapons and ammunition to aid the Finns during this conflict. This military aid included: 135,402 rifles, 347 machine guns, 450 light machine guns with 50,013,300 rounds of small arms ammunition; 144 field guns, 100 anti-aircraft guns and 92 anti-armor guns with 301 846 shells; 300 sea mines and 500 depth charges; 17 fighter aircraft, 5 light bombers, 1 DC-2 transport aircraft turned into bomber, and 3 reconnaissance aircraft, totally comprising 1/3 of the Swedish air force at the time.” http://rarehistoricalphotos.com/swedish-volunteer-winter-war-finland-1940/ http://www.axishistory.com/about-ahf/34-finland-general/finland-general/212-foreign-volunteers-in-the-winter-war
@finnhare Funny how you skidded over the whole children getting molested part. And yea sure there were some in Sweden who felt that "maybe we should help people that we are closely related to/if Finland falls we might be next/we just need to do something because no one else will". Yes, they gave some weapons to Finland but they also promised to provide lot's of ammunition (which they they forgot suddenly when Russia said "BOO" to them). And yes I am grateful for help too, I like our independence, very much so, but I was just trying answering the question of why Finns don't seem to like Swedes, this may be ONE of the reasons.
Personally I thank the individual Swedes that helped, not the country, (the next bit is a metaphor) because I for one will go help my neighbor if some dude comes to beat him up and steal his things. However I will not let my god damn kids go help him because they feel like it.
Mostly the opinion forming about them probably just comes down to them being neutral, they didn't want to fight (neither did Finland), but when asked back someone up, they didn't give all the help that was wanted. It's like a support class not supporting during a boss battle. I am not looking for a debate or a fight, I just gave my opinion of why Finns might not like Swede. I myself don't care either way who is from what country or origin, as long as every leaves me and my stuff be (especially my PS and PC). Peace!
@FinKoponen individual Swedes and country are two different things, that is true. Finns relationship to Sweden is little difficult, history, language... My sister moved to Uppsala at one time several decades ago and start to stydy. She is married with swedish man and they vist in Finland every year. They are really nice people but everytime when they are in Finland i notice how they look down on Finland.
I can say that my sister is now more Swedish that native Swedish and it seems that they think that Finland is somekind of middle of nowhere and we are living in periphery. So many Finns think that Swedish people are arrogant when they are visiting in Finland just like thinking that now we are in our ex colony.
@FinKoponen You apparently missed the part where Finnhare mentions 50 million rounds of ammunition.
Btw, do you have any source where we can read about how many children were molested?
@FinKoponen Great Britain actually wanted to help Finland in Winter war, but Sweden and Norway denied them supply routes by land. Sea routes were already blocked, so they couldn't send anything. That's pretty much why we are still considered an Axis ally. What else could we do? It's goddamn Soviet Union and we had next to no equipment fighting back and only country ready to help was Germany.
