In Chinese they are called "beloved animals."
...but sometimes we just call them "masters". Especially cats.

In Sweden if you directly translate "pet", it'll be "house animal"

I think this comic should be tagged as the countries the pets names are from

like Brazil, Scandinavia, Spain, Hungary, Israel, France and, Philippines

like how Ladybug Around the World has the country names tagged
https://satwcomic.com/ladybug-around-the-world

In Sweden we actually call them "house animals".

Google Translate says we call them "companion animals" and that the translation is verified by contributors. Might be a regional thing but I've never heard that term.

(Sidenote, what's up with 5 comics with dates ranging between January and March showing up at the end of April?)

In Norway you could say kjæledyr or husdyr

Kjæledyr means pet animals
Husdyr means house animals

I think a more fitting translation of the Filipino term, in relation to how it was used in the post, is "a living thing entrusted to the care of someone". Pests are sometimes ironically referred to as pets to make light of having them around.
