E-ELT

I didn't even have to come up with a joke for this one. The fact that they really named it that is all you need to know.

I now propose that every organization appoint a Designated Namer.

The DN will sit in be asked for his advice whenever a new name is needed for anything. He will first produce a technical boring name that describes it. Next he will go to kindergarden classes, explain to the students in basic terms what he needs named, listen to the names them come up with, and pick the most creative/awesome one. The technical name will be used in official papers, but the creative names will be the one the media and public gets.

At this point I'm not surprised at how lame the name of the telescope is.

Well, I think the "Overwhelmingly Large Telescope" had quite a majestic name, what do you think? Such a pity they cancelled it.

How does that big-ass telescope balance on those rickety skinny legs?
