You guys act like these terms are universal standards that everyone has already heard of, much less agrees with.
Your college Gender Studies classroom is not representative of the entire planet. :P
Ohh yeah, the story of Lili Elbe. Born a man as Einar Mogens Wegener, he was already married to an woman, she encouraged him to dress as woman and then he started transitioning seriously to female body and they started living as a lesbian couple. Denmark has always been so progressive in so many issues, including Hans Christian Andersen's homosexuality and his rather public love relationship to a male ballet dancer. Lili's story recently was adapted to a novel by an American author, and now the book is being adapted to the theaters starring British actor Eddie Redmayne (the guy who won an Oscar from playing Stephan Hawking) and a Swedish actress called Alicia Vikander. As a transgender myself I can't wait to watch this film! (although maybe I might have to watch it on Netflix, I think it's going to have a limited released only in the United States).
@IsabellaFelipe Actually the stuff that's been said about Elbe/Lili is fake. My close friend Laura Wegener is the closest relative who openly talks about Elbes transition, as the rest is very ashamed about Elbe. I will ask my friend about what actually happened, and comment again <3
The only thing I remember her telling me, is that the operation wasn't successful. It was an operation that gave Elbe pigs ovaries, but the body couldn't take it, and she died few weeks after the operation.
@Amiralaursen if you're gonna try to sell a lie, at least get the fucking NAME right! As stated in the very comment you were replying to, her name before transitioning was Einar (a very common Danish name), not Elbe (a name that I'd bet my life that no Danish man OR woman had back then)! Your lies about pig ovaries and her being killed by the operations weren't convincing either!
"Denmark was the first country in the world to turn a transsexual man into a woman"
Okay I have a little clarification here. A man cannot be turned into a woman, what Denmark did was to turn a man into a Eunuch, and that have been done before.
