And finally the Nordics.

I do think it's rather sweet though that the winning song "Only Teardrops" is actually about Europe and a plea for everyone to get along.

Australian Princess

While drawing this a program about the royal wedding between the Danish crown prince Frederik and the Australian Mary started on TV.

Mary have become a very beloved princess in Denmark. Unlike the French guy our queen Margrethe married, Mary was very quick to learn Danish and she just overall seems like a really nice lady.

It may seem like a weird mix to have Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Netherlands together, that’s because those four royal families usually hang out together.

Throughout the world Romania have two stereotypes: Vampires and thieving gipsies.

So of course Romania is a vampire who would rather steal your purse than drink your blood. Yes, I know that makes me a horrible person.

And yes, that is Sister England. Yes, I know you English people envisioned her differently, but this is the kind of women we see in your TV series and movies, so this is what she looks like.

Random Norway and Denmark

When I drew the comic about Bornholm I didn’t imagine him to be a little person, but someone asked something along the lines of, “Denmark is a short guy, but seeing as Bornholm is one of Denmark’s islands, is he taller or shorter than Denmark?” and for some reason my first thought was, “He’s a little person”. Not that it has anything to do with Bornholm being an island. Åland is after all taller than both Finland and Sweden. It was just a random thought I haven’t been able to shake of, and have grown fond off over time.

Originally Norway and Iceland were supposed to be twins because in Denmark the stereotypical Icelander looks almost exactly like a stereotypical Norwegian with woollen sweater and all. Then I read somewhere that the Icelanders see themselves as crazy extreme sports enthusiasts, so I decided to go with that so as not to have two completely identical characters.
But I still haven’t been able to completely let go of the idea of them being brothers, only now I see them as older brother Norway and little brother Iceland.

Boys are such weirdos

Heh, while studying the history of the witch trials in Scandinavia, I came across a Swedish book, that said that witchcraft was a very women-specific crime, while incest and zoophilia was very men-specific in Norway and Sweden, respectively.
Sadly the book didn’t mention what men in Denmark got killed for, so I just assumed it was something more “boring” like murder.

It should be mentioned that just because most men got killed for this in those countries, it doesn’t mean it happened there more often than other places. For example, in Holland most men got killed for homosexuality, but they hardly had more homosexuals.

There are no stereotypes saying that Finns look like this. I just thought it went well with the I-don't-give-a-fuck-what-you-think personality I’ve given them.

And yes, I actually imagine Sister Norway to be slightly taller than her brother, just because.

I didn’t realize it before the picture was done, but I love how you can see that a domino effect will take place in the boys' picture:

Iceland is just standing around being his usual pretty self. That...um, distracts Sweden. Therefore he doesn’t notice that Denmark is about to towel whip Norway. When that happens, Norway will jump, and bump into Finland. Finland will drop his beer, and then all hell will break loose!
