Sleepy Head

Sleepy Head

On National Sleepy Head Day the last person sleeping in the house could be woken up by being thrown into a lake.

Dress the Part

Dress the Part

It's a common misconception that because Denmark doesn't have an official national costume, Denmark doesn't have festive folk-dresses at all. Nothing could be further from the truth. Different areas have wildly different clothes though, so in one area men wore huge baggy pants, in another women wore men's top-hats, in another people wore masks that covered their whole face when outside, and the list goes on.

One of the reasons why Denmark doesn't have one official national dress is because the Faroe Islands and Greenland were part of Denmark for so long, and having one standard dress would be like erasing theirs.

It's all Greek to me

In English there is the phrase "That's Greek to me" but what phrase do other countries use?

Great Concern

Great Concern

There's no story behind this one. I just felt like drawing a slice of life comic about the assholery the Nordic characters subject each other to.

Bitchy Witchy

Bitchy Witchy

Happy Halloween!

During the witch hunts in Europe each country had their own witch lore.

In Norway and Sweden they were what you would expect. Women who did magic and could fly using anything from broomsticks to their husbands.

In Denmark however witches weren't believed to have the power to fly. Their favorite transportation was a horse at night.

And in Iceland and Finland performing magic was seen as a male thing, so Christians had a hard time convincing the natives witches were women. Instead men got burned and only one or two women were killed.

Swedish Army

Swedish Army

There's a story going around that small breasted women who join the Swedish army are offered the choice of free breast implants. They're also advised to gain a little weights, all intended to make them look bigger, more butch, and matronly. In other words, big breasts are scary. :fear:

You can get a Sister Sweden poster now here The poster has been selling a lot better than I thought it would. You naughty people. ;)

Australian Princess

Australian Princess

While drawing this a program about the royal wedding between the Danish crown prince Frederik and the Australian Mary started on TV. :)

Mary have become a very beloved princess in Denmark. Unlike the French guy our queen Margrethe married, Mary was very quick to learn Danish and she just overall seems like a really nice lady.

It may seem like a weird mix to have Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Netherlands together, that’s because those four royal families usually hang out together.

Denmark crying at the end is also a reference to the wedding, where prince Frederik started crying like baby. (And her father was wearing an awesome kilt!) :D

Girl's Night

Girl's Night

There’s no hidden political or historical joke here. This one is for a special Finnish friend of mine. You know who you are. ;)

Everything is of course pink because they’re at Sister Sweden’s house.

Also, I’m experimenting a bit with Sister Denmark's looks. I’m trying to find the right amount of boyish for her.

Warning! Sappy crap ahead!

Heh, I saw this Then I looked up the song and came across this version sung by Alison Krauss and well..

You should be ashamed of yourself, Miss Sweden! You are a disgrace to all sluts everywhere! D:<

I added the handcuffs so as not to make it too sappy. Besides, Finland is lying on his back, so he must be snoring like a motherfucker. :XD:

Freakishly old idea. France thought she was getting this :XD:

It always amused me when people said, “Sister Denmark looks really cute” or “Why did you draw Sister [inset country here] so ugly!? She should be looking more like Sister Denmark!”

Because in my mind she looks like a boy, and not in a cute tomboyish way, but in a “If she wears a baggy shirt people think she’s a hot guy with long hair” way.

To get this point across better I will from now on draw her without eyelashes and breasts. :D
