Drop bears are scary right?

Drop bears are scary right?

I’ve noticed how annoyed Australian’s get lately if people mention The Great Emu War.

Glow up

Glow up

According to some old Arabic texts both male and female Norsemen aka Vikings wore black eyeliner to increase their beauty. Apparently it never faded once applied, which just sounds like they refused to leave the house without applying their makeup.

Equal Fight

Equal Fight

If you say Iceland is the most gender equal country in the world within hearing distance of a Swede you WILL get your throat slit.

Frozen Scandinavia

Frozen Scandinavia

Left to right: Svalbart as Elsa, Norway as Anna, Saami as Kristoff, Denmark as Hans, and Sweden as the Duke of Weselton.

I wasn't going to do anything with Frozen until I was informed that all three of the Scandinavian countries are represented in the movie.

Arendelle is Magic Norway (very obvious), The Southern Isles are Magic Denmark (hint being that Denmark is mostly made up of islands and the most southern of the Scandinavian countries), and Weselton is Magic Sweden (hint being that Weselton is Arendelle's closest trading partner, which is historically Sweden to Norway).

Saami is, well, the Saami character, though he's not impressed with his clothes which doesn't look like any real Saami clothes.

And it all make a fair amount of sense considering how Denmark and Sweden have been fighting over Norway for centuries.

Here's the whale spotted off Svalbard's coast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r62edSNu3U8

Most of the Nordics hunt whales, though not usually humpback whales, so that's purely for the joke.

Pacifist

Pacifist

Svalbard is the Norwegians’ favourite island, and a place where people are required to carry guns because of the large number of polar bears living there.

Sweden and Denmark trying to shoot each other is of course another joke on them holding the world record for most wars fought between them.

I came up three different ways it could go wrong when hading these guys weapons. I’ll probably draw them some day.

The Badasses

The Badasses

The three SatW characters people usually refer to as the badasses. :D

In front, Svalbard, Norway’s twin brother. The tough one who lives in the unforgiving and frozen wilderness alone. He’s not a violent or angry person, but you can be damn sure he will be the last one standing.

On the left, Finland. The quiet one who takes no shit from anyone (Except Sister Sweden, but for reasons all his own ;) ). You can never be quite sure of what is going on in his head, and if you are not within stabbing distance, he will snipe you from across the city.

On the right, Åland. The love struck one who will make your life a living hell if you get in the way of his happiness. If you get on his bad side, he won’t care if you surrender...

Drama Bear

Drama Bear

OH THE DRAMA!!!

A few days ago a pair of Norwegians were attacked by a polar bear while they were sleeping in their tent. They were supposed to be the first tourists on a new rout on one of Norway’s more famous islands, Svalbard.

My first thought when seeing that on the news was, "Well Norway, seems like not even you can be friends with all animals..." :D

And don't worry. While one of the guys got hurt quite a bit, they both survived. :)
