The Scots voted on their independence, and though they voted no, the no supporters only won with 55,4% making it almost a tie.

No doubt Scotland's feelings for England are complicated.

Where's my f***ing sweets

Where's my f***ing sweets

My Faroese friend told me about World War II on the Faroe Islands.

A lot of British soldiers were stationed there, and got quite popular by behaving nicely and exchanging chocolate for lighters. They were so well liked the Faroese people often gave them food for free and invited them to dances.

The Norwegian soldiers however made themselves unpopular by behaving less polite and taking lighters without giving anything in return.

To this day some of the older generation on the islands still dislike Norwegians for this chocolate betrayal.

So remember, never not give people chocolate! They remember that stuff!

How to use a bike

How to use a bike

When I moved to England I noticed a lot of differences from Denmark. When I moved back to Denmark I noticed even more. One being that "cyclist" means different things.

In Denmark a cyclist just means a person on a bike (and most Danes are cyclists), but in England it's mostly used about people who are really really REALLY into bikes.

Eurovision 2014

Eurovision 2014

The main theme of Eurovision 2014 was Eurovision History.

But it also had two smaller themes.
1) The Danish hosts were trying to be a little creepy as a nod to Danish actors always being hired to play villains in American and English films and TV. That was the reason behind the weird stalker segment and shooting fireworks at the commentators.
2) They acknowledged that Eurovision is very popular among gays, which is why it had one female host and two males who were being very *ahem* friendly with each other.

So could it be more fitting that a drag queen who sang a James Bond themed song won?

America in the background is because The Netherlands' song was about as American as Eurovision will allow.

Overall there were quite a few good songs this year, so I encourage you to go look for them.

In Scandinavia we're used to food just coming with a salad at restaurants.

When my family visited me in England we had dinner together, and they moved their food around a bit, even lifting it, before their finally asked "Where's the salad?"

Merry Christmas 2013

A nice little British tradition. Pour brandy on the Christmas cake and set fire to it.

Sour and Sweet

Sour and Sweet

Pretty much how the Vikings behaved in England. For many years it was highly popular for Vikings to go to England and steal everything that wasn't nailed to the floor, but then they started realizing that England wasn't a bad place to live in, so they settled down and made friends with the locals they had previously beaten to a pulp.

Part of the Gang

Scotland has talked about wanting to become a Nordic country, so the Nordics can be a bit protective of him...
