How the North works

How the North works

I found this lying unfinished around on my computer, and because I’ve got no comic today you’ll have to do with this.

Being the Dane I am, I of course forgot the Sami People (the Nordic "Indians").

EDIT: Yes, Sweden got Norway later on, but that is not what the bottom picture is about. For many years the Nordics were separated in West-North and East-North. When Sweden got Norway that messed up the separation of West and East and marked Denmark’s decline from power.

Kung Fu Fighting

Kung Fu Fighting

Denmark has always been horribly bad at ice hockey, until they got trained by the Swedish team.
Finland was completely unprepared for this, and was stunned when the Danish team beat them.

They then tried to ridicule the Danes by saying, “You only won because Sweden helped you!”
To which the Danes responded, “Of course. How else did you think we suddenly got so good?”

So Finland’s attempt at making Sweden and Denmark mortal enemies in ice hockey failed horribly. :XD:

The Scariest Ghost Ever

The Scariest Ghost Ever

Greenland showing off his ghost-taming skillz.

The belief in spirits is very much alive in Greenland. If people move into a new house or an office, it’s not unusual to have a shaman come and chase old ghosts and what not out.

It’s a rather sad stereotype in Denmark that Greenlanders are alcoholics, mainly because we usually choose to ignore that the alcohol problem was our fault. We introduced it into a culture that had never had it before and then just let it run wild.

Yes, I’m throwing these comics after you now because I have 10 of them just lying around waiting to get posted. :XD:

Oh how often I have been asked by Estonians, “Where is Estonia? We’re a Nordic country too!”

Problem is, the other Nordics doesn’t think so. :XD:

I asked around what the stereotypes for the Baltic countries were, and the overall answer was, “Very depressed people who wear grey and live in grey houses”

Estonia have a good relationship with Finland, which is why he doesn’t hide, but he doesn’t consider her a Nordic either which is why he doesn’t let her in. The Finland’ish hat is because Estonians are seen as being very much like Finns by the other Baltics.

Well, it speaks for itself.

I almost put Greenland in with it's 3.694,00 meters but didn't want to steal Norway's spotlight.
Thinking about it, I might do another one including Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Åland.

What did you say?

What did you say?

Ah, the languages of the Nordics.

Few people realize this, but Norwegians actually speak a language that is far closer to old Danish than Norwegian, while people on Iceland actually speak something close to old Norwegian.
Little FennoSwede is holding on to his uncle Finland because FennoSwedes are Finns who speak Swedish.

Though, you could really just say Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and to some extend Icelandic (But not Finnish) are nothing more than different dialects, seeing as we understand each other if we talk reeeeaaaaly slow and clear.

And it will of course never not be funny how some Americans treat British like a completely different language. :XD:
Sure, some words are different and it’s a different accent, but try coming to Europe. We’ll show you what “different language” means. ;)

Enjoy my tacky taste in tablecloth and nail polish. :D

Yes, they all live in my apartment, which is why I’m not keen on drawing too many countries. It can be pure chaos. Especially when America is around, because he insists on being the centre of attention at all times. :XD:

I'll probably do more comics/pictures like this. It was fun.

EDIT: Don't worry. This isn't permanent. ;)

Oh America. You have no idea what kind of women Finland has to deal with. :XD:

I debated with myself for a long time about who should be teasing Finland. The original idea was Denmark, but I also considered Russia and even Italy. I ended up with USA for two reasons:
The next comic will have him interacting with Sister Iceland/Norway/Denmark and that way he will have been in contact with all the Nordic sisters. But also because he is pretty much just a big teenager and still a virgin, so even one of these women would have been too much for him. :D

Yes, “Whopa” is a failed whipping sound. :XD:
