Eurovision 2016

Eurovision 2016

As per tradition, here's the yearly Eurovision comic.

This Eurovision had a lot of firsts: Australia became an official participant despite preforming last year, the show was shown on American TV, an American preformed, and not a single Nordic country made it to the finals except Sweden because they were hosting the show.

I actually hope America joins Eurovision some day because they'd be the most amazing drama queens every time they lost, and nothing says Eurovision like drama.

Manners are important

Manners are important

I actually don't know if this is the case all over China or just some parts, but I've seen it mentioned in a lot of places.

Two ways about it

Two ways about it

Finns are always talking about how much the cold doesn't bother them, while Russians refuse fuck around with it.

I once traveled in the winter with a group of friends. Most of us were just wearing a winter jacket, but the one Russian wore no less than two woolen sweaters and two thick jackets, wrapped a scarf around his head and put a hat on top.

Snoopy Russia

Snoopy Russia

Russia has been acting rather pushy towards the Scandinavians lately.

Sweden noticed suspicious submarine activity along it's east coast (the Russians have a history of occasionally snooping around in Swedish waters) and Denmark had to send out fighter aircrafts to chase away Russian planes from Danish airspace.

No one is actually fearing an attack at this point though. It just feels like Russia is showing off.

Eurovision 2014

Eurovision 2014

The main theme of Eurovision 2014 was Eurovision History.

But it also had two smaller themes.
1) The Danish hosts were trying to be a little creepy as a nod to Danish actors always being hired to play villains in American and English films and TV. That was the reason behind the weird stalker segment and shooting fireworks at the commentators.
2) They acknowledged that Eurovision is very popular among gays, which is why it had one female host and two males who were being very *ahem* friendly with each other.

So could it be more fitting that a drag queen who sang a James Bond themed song won?

America in the background is because The Netherlands' song was about as American as Eurovision will allow.

Overall there were quite a few good songs this year, so I encourage you to go look for them.

Waiting Game

Waiting Game

Denmark was freed by the west at the end of WW2, but they forgot the small island Bornholm, which Russia then kicked the Nazis off. The Danes were very grateful at first, until they realized the Russians took their sweet time leaving, and people started worrying that they had taken Bornholm. But finally after a long while they left and everybody made a sigh of relief.
But still to this day you can still see Communist monuments on the island that stands out from the rest of the art on Bornholm.
