The Love Story of Bornholm

Aw, poor Norway. Nobody ever tells him what is going on.
Bornholm, the only on of Denmark’s far away islands that actually likes Denmark and consider themselves to be Danes (Though not quite the same kind of Danes as the rest of us).

Scania is the very south of Sweden, and even though it belongs to Sweden now, a lot of people feel that it’s still part of Denmark, and the rest of Sweden think that they’re pretty weird.

The story behind this comic is that Sweden once defeated Denmark, and the Danish king had to give up most of Denmark and parts of Norway (which was under Denmark at the time) so as not to loose the entire kingdom.
But the Swedish king was a bit of a bully at the time, and Bornholm quickly grew tired of being part of Sweden, so they killed as many Swedes as they could get their hands on, until the rest finally left.
Then they went back to Denmark and told the king that they would be part of his kingdom again if he promised to never give them away like that again. They just liked Denmark that much.

Apart from the killing Swedes part, I think it’s actually a pretty cute story.

America Has Spoken

Quite a few things in here that needs an explanation.

America loves to meddle in other countries affairs, despite knowing very little about the countries.

Doing World War 2 the Swedes let Germany walk through Sweden, which allowed them to invade Norway.
That pissed Norway off quite a bit, and for many years after that it was custom for Danes, if they were having a party where both a Swede and a Norwegian would show up, to never place them at the same table or anywhere near each other, because otherwise they were sure to start fighting.

Poland is wearing a burglar’s bask because if anything is stolen in Scandinavia, it will most likely turn up in Poland. Not necessarily because it was a Pole who stole the thing in the first place, but because that’s where a lot of people go to get rid of their stolen goods.

The Faroes

Every time I posted a comic that had Greenland in it, quite a few people asked me, ”What about the Faroes?”
Sometimes I would think, “You live in Canada! How the hell would you know about the Faroes?!”

Well, here he is. Denmark’s other “colony”.
The thing about the Faroes is that Danes usually forget all about them because they’re small and they don’t hate us quite as much as Greenland. In fact, they even voted yes to staying part of Denmark, and it quite upsets them that Denmark doesn’t pay them enough attention.

When Danes do remember there’s a place called the Faroes, we usually remember them for spending our money and then complaining about us when we ask them to pay it back.

Dinner Partner

Everybody knows that there’s nothing but sheep in New Zeeland, and that Wales is quite fond of sheep. It's a match made in Heaven! ;)

And either Norway, Denmark and Sweden's dinner patners left before time, or Sweden mockingly made Denmark his dinner partner because Denmark once invented man-breasts.

I want oil

So there is a spot between Canada and Greenland where there might be oil, and now all the countries around it claim it as their own. Especially America, Russia and yes, tiny little Denmark are being very aggressive about it.

Sweden can’t really get into the fight because he can’t claim that the spot belongs to him, and Norway is pretty relaxed about it, because he already has his own oil.

Meet my Sister

It's a girl thing. You boys wouldn't understand it.

Anyway, here’s the boys introducing their sisters to each other. All countries have a sibling of the opposite sex. This came to be because the stereotypical Swedish woman is radically different from the stereotypical Swedish man. In fact, she is the complete opposite of everything the Swedish man stands for, so Sweden is not particular proud of her.
