*fingers in ears* It's not political!

Apparently Little My from the Moomins and Sailor Moon are Lithuania and Belarus' ascetics this year. And let's not forget that Epic Sax Guy is back.

Wrong answer? Wrong question!

Wrong answer? Wrong question!

In Japan it's quite common for a grown man to adopt another grown man.

It started when company owners wanted to keep the company in their family but either didn't have sons who could inherit it, or didn't think their sons where up for the job. So what to do? Hand it over to their daughters? Ha! Don't be ridiculous! It's much more sensible to adopt a 50 years old man from work legally and keep the company in the family that way!

Gay weddings aren't allowed in Japan, so gay couples use this whole adoption business to become family in the eyes of the law. That way they can secure each other financially and be allowed to see each other in places where only family is allowed.

A study was made to see which Western babies were the quietest, and people from Denmark reported the least crying.

But when the scientists went to Denmark to study it, they found that Danish babies cry just as much as other Western babies. It turned out that even though you'll find plenty of Danes complaining about noisy babies, Danes in general are much more tolerant of crying babies than in other countries and it takes more for them to get annoyed. So the scientists then tried to explain that, and so far their best guess is that Danes have more room for children of all ages expressing themselves.

The quietest babies in the world can be found in African and Far Eastern countries, where the parents (or grandparents) usually have the babies with them at all time, which makes the babies feel safe.

Equality means no mercy

Equality means no mercy

While I lived in England I realized how good we have it in Scandinavia. Norway, Sweden and Denmark have a bloody past with each other, but somehow we managed to put it all behind us and can now tease each other all we want without it turning ugly.

If Norway hadn't struck oil they might have been our Ireland today (England can joke about them, but only to a point), but now they're the richest country in Europe so we're all good.

Fall from grace

Fall from grace

Please Norway, do not take this from us. Being the happiest country is all we got.

When they talked about this on the Danish news the reporter said "We've always seen Sweden as our nemesis, but maybe it's time to turn our attention to Norway"

Ah, world politics. The Netherlands and Turkey have been in each other's hair several times, but it has mostly stayed civil until now.

And Hawaii is having none of Trump America's crap right now.

Language Barrier

Language Barrier

I've seen several Americans say they wouldn't want to visit another country without leaning the language because they feel it would be rude otherwise.

It very much depends on the country. It's of course a huge advantage in countries where they don't speak English like Japan, and the Japanese generally like it when tourists at least try.

The French aren't huge fans of English, and I've met several people who would say stuff in French at me first despite me making it clear I didn't understand a word, then begrudgingly speak English.

Most Danes understand English and see no point in tourists leaning Danish. A simple "Tak" (thank you) is appreciated because it shows an interest, but Danes will generally get annoyed if you try something longer than that, start finishing your sentences and speak English to you. It can be super rude, but it's really just them telling you "It's okay, I understand English. Don't waste your time trying to learn Danish". So if you want to learn Danish it's best to practice with your friends rather than a random store clerk who'd much prefer you speak English.

New World

New World

If you only visit England on vacations you won't notice, but if you decide to move there like I did, you will start to realize how scared England as a nation is of new technology.

Like, several of the people working at the bank where I got an account didn't know how to send an email and had never done it in their life. I repeat, people working at a BANK.

So it was no surprise to me that it took months and months to get English people to use instant pay while in Denmark it happened practically over night.
(It feels a lot like tooting Denmark's horn here, so I would have liked to add more countries, but I have no idea how quick they were to use instant pay and it's impossible to find info on online).
