Ah, world politics. The Netherlands and Turkey have been in each other's hair several times, but it has mostly stayed civil until now.

And Hawaii is having none of Trump America's crap right now.

Language Barrier

Language Barrier

I've seen several Americans say they wouldn't want to visit another country without leaning the language because they feel it would be rude otherwise.

It very much depends on the country. It's of course a huge advantage in countries where they don't speak English like Japan, and the Japanese generally like it when tourists at least try.

The French aren't huge fans of English, and I've met several people who would say stuff in French at me first despite me making it clear I didn't understand a word, then begrudgingly speak English.

Most Danes understand English and see no point in tourists leaning Danish. A simple "Tak" (thank you) is appreciated because it shows an interest, but Danes will generally get annoyed if you try something longer than that, start finishing your sentences and speak English to you. It can be super rude, but it's really just them telling you "It's okay, I understand English. Don't waste your time trying to learn Danish". So if you want to learn Danish it's best to practice with your friends rather than a random store clerk who'd much prefer you speak English.

New World

New World

If you only visit England on vacations you won't notice, but if you decide to move there like I did, you will start to realize how scared England as a nation is of new technology.

Like, several of the people working at the bank where I got an account didn't know how to send an email and had never done it in their life. I repeat, people working at a BANK.

So it was no surprise to me that it took months and months to get English people to use instant pay while in Denmark it happened practically over night.
(It feels a lot like tooting Denmark's horn here, so I would have liked to add more countries, but I have no idea how quick they were to use instant pay and it's impossible to find info on online).

It's legal to be a prostitute in all European countries.

However in five of them it's illegal to be a customer. This was put in place partly because it's a bit of a grey area whether the prostitute is always willing or possibly forced to do it, but a customer is always willingly visiting a prostitute.

In most European countries it's perfectly legal to be both a prostitute and a customer though, but illegal to own a brothel or be a pimp. If the prostitute has to hand any of their money over to anyone else besides the government in the form of taxes, that other person is in big trouble. Here prostitutes are considered self-employed entrepreneurs.

And then there's a few countries where brothels are legal, but regulated.

No reason why specifically Canada is the customer here. I just needed a harmless dude from a country where prostitution is illegal.

Lucky Accident

Lucky Accident

This is old news, but nobody I know knew about it, so there's a good chance most of you didn't either. Not everything that can go wrong does. Sometimes you get a lucky accident.

And I know you probably expected something else this week, but quite frankly it's becoming difficult to joke about all the terrible shit happening right now, so I'll focus on more positive things. Expect to see a lot more of Sister America for a while.

Bye bye ambassador

Bye bye ambassador

Soooo Denmark got a tiny bit obsessed with the U.S. ambassador and his husband. They even got their own TV show, and the queen threw a big goodbye party for them where Rufus was knighted.

It will be a tough act to follow for Laura.
